تعرف اختصارًا باسم س ح م هي شركة قطاع عام تمتلكها الحكومة المصرية بالكامل، و تشغّل خطوط السكك الحديدية المصرية، والتي هي الثانية في العالم حيث تأسست بعد تأسيس السكك الحديد البريطانية بفترة وجيزة.
تعاني اليوم من خلل في منظومة الصيانة و تداعيات إهمال أصابها على مدى عقود فاتت، مما يجعل معدل الحوادث عليها أعلى بكثير من نسب باقي دول العالم. و بعد حادث قطار منفلوط في أواخر سنة 2012 وضعت الحكومة المصرية (وزارة هشام قنديل) خطة لتطوير المزلقانات و التي مخطط تطوير جميعها قبل نهاية سنة 2013.
و تحد المزلقانات الجديدة و التي افتتح أولها في بداية 2013 على العامل البشري الذي كان حاضرا في السابق.
و تعتمد بوابات صلبة بدلا من السلاسل الحديدية.
